RE: Important: Program Continuity Instructions CUPE 3902 Unit 3

CUPE 3902, Unit 3 representing approximately 800 sessional lecturers at the University of Toronto is in a legal strike position as of 12:01am November 8, 2009. We are continuing to bargain in good faith, but it is critical that we prepare now for the possibility of a strike on Monday morning. Chairs, directors, and single departmental faculty deans should:

* Check your email regularly today and over the weekend. We will be updating you and sending further instructions if necessary.

* Ensure that you have an email list for all your CUPE 3902 Unit 3 members today and ensure that you have the ability to send out emails to them over the weekend.

* Collect Syllabi, Grades and submitted work. If you do not already have this information for your CUPE 3902 Unit 3-taught courses, immediately contact these course instructors and request that they provide you with copies of course syllabi, exams, marks assigned to date, unmarked assignments, and marking schemes.

An appropriate communication would be:

"As you know, CUPE 3902 Unit 3 has indicated that a legal strike could commence as early as Monday, November 9, 2009. In order to minimize the potential impact on our students and in order to preserve the academic integrity of our programs, we are asking that, if you have not already done so, you provide to your department chair or dean copies of your course syllabi, exams, marks assigned to date, unmarked assignments, marking schemes and the like. We thank you for your co-operation and assure you that the University is continuing to work towards a responsible
agreement with CUPE 3902 Unit 3."

If, contrary to our best efforts, we do find ourselves in a strike situation, we will all have to pull together to maintain the continuity and academic integrity of our programs. It will be a difficult and challenging time and your continued efforts will be most appreciated.
