Fall Convocation

Friends, family and Faculty gathered in the east common room of Hart House to congratulate our newest alumni who were conferred their degrees on November 9.

MIE Renovations Update

The New Student Services Centre
The project is on schedule to be completed in December. The contractor is installing a new terrazzo floor from November 8 to 19. We expect loud grinding noise and some vibrations from this process, during this period. Dust and fumes will be minimal with the equipment and process that the contractor is using.

MC power upgrade
This project is scheduled to start on November 10 and be completed by March 31, 2011. Power shutdowns will be minimized. Notice will be provided.

MC main sprinkler room
Most of the piping and valves in the MC main sprinkler room (MC57) need to be replaced. We expect some disruptions in the MC basement area over the next few weeks.

Renovations for CFI projects
Renovations area planned to start in December for the following areas: MC120E, MC120F, and MC120G. MC403, MC403B, MC404, MC404A, and MC405. BA8200, BA8202, and BA8204.

Awards & Recognition
Prof. Bazylak acts as panelist on CBC's Quirks and Quarks

Prof. Aimy Bazylak was recently an invited panelist on the 35th anniversary show of Quirks and Quarks, the longest running science show in Canada. She fielded questions about what was the greatest advancement in alternative energy over the past 35 years. The show aired on CBC Radio One on Saturday, November 13, is available online through the Quirks and Quarks podcast.

Research Activities
Ontario Centres of Excellence » Value-Added Personnel (VAP) Courses

OCE is pleased to announce the next in its series VAP courses to all Ontario graduate students. The VAP courses being offered are Market Strategy and Business Development & Entrepreneurship and How to Develop a Winning Market Strategy, to be held at the Waterloo Inn Conference Hotel in Waterloo, ON, November 23 - 25.

The Gordon Cressy Leadership Awards are named to students in good academic standing (minimum CGPA of 2.7 or above), enrolled in full- or part-time studies, and are eligible to graduate in either November 2010 or June 2011. Students' contribution may take the form of any one, or a combination of the following:

» leadership on committees or influence on student or university affairs
» improvement in the quality of the life of students
» contributions to the co-curricular experience
» encouragement of fellow students to become involved in extra-curricular activities
» contribution to the sense of community at U of T
» volunteer service outside the University community will also be considered

Fall Swap Event

Date: Wednesday, November 17
Time: 10 AM – 6 PM
Location: South Borden Building

The Sustainability Office is excited to partner with Recycling & Waste Management, UTERN and Campus Co-op to host a Fall Swap Event!

We’re encouraging university students, staff and faculty to donate their unwanted items to the Swap, as well as drop in the day of the event to search for hidden gems. Accepted items include clothing, accessories, electronics, books, kitchen items, housewares, and any other items that you could carry in yourself. Leftover items will be donated to the Swap Shop United Way Sale held the following week.

Donations will be accepted at the Sustainability Office in room 208 of the South Borden Building (Spadina Crescent and Russell Street) from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, from now until Tuesday, November 17. UofT Swap Shop Sale for United Way

Dates: Tuesday, November 23 - Thursday, November 25

Location: The Swap Shop, South Borden Building, 487 Spadina Cres



Once a year, the Swap Shop hosts a three day sale to benefit the United Way. All proceeds go to the charity. Everyone is welcome! All items are on sale! We also encourage donations and selected items may be on sale through out the year. In addition to our usual variety, we have clothing, toys, jewelry, cell phones and more for sale.
