OCEPP 2010 Public Policy Conference less than a month away!

Act now to secure your place

Time is running out to register for the 2010 Public Policy Conference. Not only will you gain the latest perspectives on some of the most critical and challenging issues facing engineers and decision-makers, you will have a superb opportunity to meet and network with hundreds of the province’s top engineers, policy-makers, senior bureaucrats, university engineering and policy faculty, and opinion-leaders.

Concurrent break-out sessions will focus on topics such as engineering leadership, Ontario’s waste management future, Canada’s isotope crisis and women in engineering. The conference program is available at www.ocepp.ca and http://2010ocepppolicyconference.eventbrite.com/.

Patry, Holder among eminent speakers
This year, the centre is extremely fortunate to present nearly 30 highly accomplished speakers and panelists, including Dr. Gilles Patry, president emeritus of the University of Ottawa, and Janet Holder, president and CEO of Enbridge Gas Distribution.

Dr. Gilles Patry was president and vice-chancellor of the University of Ottawa from 2001 to 2008, after serving first as dean of the faculty of engineering and then vice-president (academic). His career as an engineer, academic and administrator also includes a decade as a professor of civil engineering at McMaster University. Hydromantis, Inc., the Hamilton-based consulting firm which he founded, is a Canadian success story and now operates around the globe. Dr. Patry holds a B.A.Sc., an M.Sc. and a PhD in civil engineering.

As head of Enbridge Gas Distribution Janet Holder oversees Canada’s largest natural gas utility. In this role Ms. Holder also has responsibility for utility and non-regulated businesses in Eastern Canada and the United States. She holds a bachelor of science in chemical engineering and an MBA, and in 2009 was named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 by the Women’s Executive Network.

How to register
Registration is an easy three-step process, through our Eventbrite posting at: http://2010ocepppolicyconference.eventbrite.com/. The conference fee is $300; for PEO members it’s $250 (discount code: 2010conferencePEO) and for students the fee is $80 (discount code: 2010conferenceSTUDENT).

Planning to stay overnight?
While the Hilton Toronto’s special room rate of $189 (taxes extra) was guaranteed until April 12, you may still be able to book a room at this rate. You can check availability or make a reservation via the hotel’s website:

http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/groups/personalized/TORHIHH-PENG10-20100506/index.jhtml?WT.mc_id=POG.

In the box beside “promotion code/offer” enter “PENG10.” Even though the first webpage shows the room fee in US dollars, the rate is in Canadian funds.
