Dear Chairs and Directors:
Please find attached a report that highlights the current institutional research challenges and opportunities we face, as we strive to sustain and enhance research excellence and leadership for UofT. The report also outlines an action plan for how the three units within the central research administration (RSO, IPO and ROCO) can focus their efforts in partnership with your Divisions to maximise impact for our PIs and the Institution. The OVPR has initiated a series of meetings which are currently underway with administrators from your Faculty to look at how we can optimize and enhance our operational partnership. We look forward to discussing this with you further at follow up meetings. (Unfortunately it is not possible to attach this document on the blog, if anyone would like a copy of it please contact me at alina@civ.utoronto.ca and I will forward it to you.)
Each year the Office of Vice President Research (OVPR) produces an annual report and these alternate between an internally focused document on challenges and opportunities (attached here) with one that speaks to the impact of UofT research and innovation targeted at external audiences. For your convenience the current award winning external UofT research report entitled “Ideas that could change the world” can be found at:

and UofT research by the numbers at:

I and the OVPR staff look forward to a continued positive and productive partnership with you, your staff and PIs to transform the challenges we face into opportunities that will sustain excellence and enhance our global leadership position in research and innovation.
Thank you for your support in our joint research and innovation mission.
Regards
Paul
