I have a request for judges for the Canada Wide Science Fair this May, to be held at Seneca College. They are looking for judges from a wide background and I thought some of your professors and graduate students might be interested. They need a lot of judges.

Subject: Canada Wide Science Fair Judging
Hello Susan,
I am Jeff Hoyle, the Chief Judge for the Canada Wide Science Fair that will be held at Seneca College, Newnham campus, in May 2011.
I was given your name as a potentially very useful contact for help with finding judges.
I have attached an info sheet that I am sending out to potential judges.
At this time we have about 270 identified judges and are searching for a total of about 500. So we still have a ways to go yet. As part of this number we are looking for about 75 francophone judges.
My colleague, Patrick Whippey has said that you have access to a large number of potential judges and that you would be willing to 'get the message out'. Anything that you can do in this regard would be much appreciated.
Please let me know if I can provide you with anything further.
Thanks so much.
Jeff Hoyle
------------------------------------ Info Sheet -------------------------------------
The Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) is the premier science fair held in Canada. It takes place annually and has been in about 40 towns and cities over the years. This year’s event is the 50th anniversary and will take place at Seneca College, Newnham campus. The judging for this event will take place on 17 May 2011. This will be an all day event with judges arriving for 7.30am and most finishing by 5pm. The team captains will be on the job until about 9-10pm. Food will be provided for all, coffee, juice, breakfast, lunch and evening meal for the captains. Parking on campus will be free.
On 16 May there will be an event for all judges starting at 5pm. This will include a meal, a short (45 minute) presentation on the judging system to be used on the following day. After that all judges will have unrestricted access to the projects without the participants being present. In the past most judges have used this time to review the projects that they will be judging and to formulate questions for the following day. Judges will also be able to compare the projects that they are judging with others in the same age group.
About 10 days before the fair each judge will receive a schedule for judging along with 5-page reports on the projects being judged. There is an extensive judging booklet which will be provided in April.
Judges who wish to register will need to provide a unique email and their full name. Judges will then be placed in the registration system, they will receive an email indicating that their name has been entered and will be invited to completed this on-line; it should take no more than 15 minutes.
We are looking for judges from a wide range of backgrounds - academics, graduate students, post docs, engineers practicing in industry, government scientists and those in private industry. Pharmacists, nurses, physicians, veterinarians, teachers, technicians with significant practical experience etc. etc. We want our pool of judges to represent all facets of the scientific profession, in the broadest sense of the term. We balance our teams with experience, subject expertise and enthusiasm. Many of our judges hold higher degrees.
All enquiries about judging should be addressed to Dr Jeff Hoyle by email at jeff.hoyle@youthscience.ca
