The School has world-class teaching and research capabilities which support high quality undergraduate and postgraduate education. The School offers four-year Bachelor degrees in Civil and Structural Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Architectural Engineering and Mining Engineering. There are also Graduate Diploma and Masters courses in Civil and Structural Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Mining Engineering.
The School has twenty academic staff, and we are currently seeking an academic staff member up to the level of Senior Lecturer to provide academic leadership and teaching for students in the civil and structural, civil and environmental and architectural engineering degree programmes.
You will be expected to have, or be able to develop, a research track record that demonstrates a history of publications in leading international journals in your research area, as well as conducting internationally recognised research in an area of geotechnical engineering that complements the existing research expertise in the School. At the moment research strengths within the geotechnical engineering group are risk and liability in geotechnical engineering, unsaturated soils, artificial neural networks in geotechnical engineering, in_situ testing, and environmental geomechanics. Candidates with industrial experience will be well regarded.
The appointee must also be competent and willing to share administrative responsibilities with other academic staff.
Position Requirements
You should have:
■a PhD (or equivalent) in civil engineering or equivalent
■appropriate research and/or professional experience in geotechnical engineering
■ability and enthusiasm for teaching a range of courses in civil engineering at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
For appointment to Senior Lecturer (Level C) in addition to the above, you will have:
■proven ability to write research proposals and gain research grants
■excellent written and oral communication skills
■ability to make significant contributions to curriculum development and the enhancement of teaching
■in the area of geotechnical engineering
■demonstrated ability to supervise postgraduate students
■ability to work harmoniously and constructively with academic and professional staff members.
Salary
Salary: (Level B) $75,424 - $89,569 per annum, (Level C) $92,391 – $106,539 per annum.
Appointment to either level will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Superannuation
Plus an employer superannuation contribution of 17% applies.
Term of Position
This tenurable position is available from January 2011.
