I’m pleased once again to invite interested staff to participate in our ASKme program for 2010. This is an excellent opportunity to show new students what a warm and supportive community St. George can be.
Do you remember your first days at the University of Toronto, on the St. George campus? Couldn't find a building? Didn't know where the bookstore was? Thought ROSI was a person? Whether you arrive from a Toronto neighborhood, out of town, or out of country, U of T can be confusing when you are new.
The ASKme program is an opportunity for any interested staff member, in addition to those staff already involved in direct student service, to help new students navigate the campus. Most of us already are informal ambassadors, especially at this time of year. Enjoying the energy of students arriving at our campus, remembering our own confusion, we assist students whenever we can.
Volunteering as an ASKme ambassador is easy - and you don’t need to know all of the answers to participate.
1. Starting September 1, visit the ASKme website (http://www.studentlife.utoronto.ca/ASKme) to download an information sheet and print your customized name badge. Name badge holders will be available from your departmental administrative staff (or use your own, if you have a 4”x3” badge holder you’d like to recycle).
2. Read through the information sheet and familiarize yourself with the kinds of questions most frequently asked by new students.
3. During the ASKme period of September 7 to 17, wear your name badge and carry your info sheet when walking around the campus.
Being an ASKme ambassador is, of course, entirely voluntary.
I greatly appreciate the participation of any interested staff and look forward to seeing you around the campus this fall. I ask that supervisors please make available a printed copy of this email to any of their staff who do not use or have access to email.
